Training for East African Judiciary

During the week of 23-27 June 2014, the Peace and Justice Initiative conducted a training workshop for Judges from East Africa.

The participants attended a series of workshops at the courts and institutions in The Hague. They visited the International Court of Justice, where they were hosted by Judge Sebutinde, and met the President, the Registrar, and the Deputy Director. They also visited the International Criminal Court, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and met with many of the principals at these international courts. The Judges were provided with expert trainings on international law, including by practitioners such as Andrew Cayley, Director of Prosecution Services for the United Kingdom Armed Forces.

The Workshop Directors were Karim Khan QC and Dato’ Shyamala Alagendra, with Doreen Kiggundu serving as Workshop Coordinator, and assistance provided by Matthew Gillett, Manuel Ventura and Anand Shah.
